Classes

DEC_0480I believe that yoga is a life skill, not an esoteric end in itself. I develop all my classes to help make the activities we do in our lives more comfortable and to help prevent injuries and pains that can arise from repetitive activities, whether we spend our days running, cycling, standing, or sitting at a desk.

CURVY YOGA (TM)–8-week class series

Wednesdays, 7:15 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at High Desert Yoga, 4600 Copper Avenue NE
Albuquerque, New Mexico  87108-1271 | www.highdesertyoga.com

Want a yoga body? Hooray! You already have one. You have a body, so you can do yoga. Curvy Yoga is about making our yoga practice work for us—with the bodies we have, not the bodies we used to have or we wish we had. Curvy Yoga is about embracing and celebrating ourselves, body, mind, and spirit.

This eight-week class series will introduce accessible, alignment-based yoga postures and muscle actions to support them. The class will progress week to week—beginning with the basic building blocks of alignment-based yoga practice and moving toward more complex postures. We will also practice relaxation and breath work to relieve stress and build body awareness.

After each class, students will be emailed practice notes, to help them practice effectively at home and integrate yoga into their daily lives (because only feeling good about ourselves for an hour a week is not enough!)

CHAIR YOGA FOR MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

Thursdays, 12:45 p.m.- 1:45 p.m. at High Desert Yoga, 4600 Copper Avenue NE
Albuquerque, New Mexico  87108-1271 | www.highdesertyoga.com

NOTE: THIS CLASS WILL MOVE TO TUESDAYS, 2:30-3:30 P.M. BEGINNING MARCH 7, 2017.

No matter what your health or mobility challenges are, you can still practice yoga. This chair-based yoga class focuses on cultivating breathwork and relaxation practices, in addition to exploring range of motion and muscular stability. Connecting breath with movement can help to relieve pain and fatigue, while cultivating neuroplasticity. Participants are encouraged to tailor the practice to their individual needs, either remaining seated for the entire practice, or coming out of the chair for portions of the class as appropriate. This class is appropriate for students using wheelchairs or any other mobility aids. The practice is especially designed for students with neurological or autoimmune issues, such as Multiple Sclerosis, Lyme disease, Parkinson’s, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Caregivers are always welcome at no additional charge. If you have questions about the class, please call the teacher, Abby Foster at 505-433-8685.
